Finished!

I have finished putting together my pdf file for my final documentation. I hope that I have enough information on it, I did my best to make a simple but useful website. I have had some setbacks in doing this course, but I am glad it is finally done. Some parts have been enjoyable, others were difficult.

Neally finished!

I have neally finished working on my assignment, today I will finish up on the report and get ready to hand it in! I feel that I have made a good website that will be worth using and easy for anyone to understand. My design is simple but effective. I will keep working on this through the day, and post again tonight.

Working on my final assignment

I am onto my final assignment and I hope that I can make it a good one. From the feedback that I have received, I feel confident that I can make a good website on windows vista. I think that with a simple design and not something too complicated it will be easy to anyone to understand.

Usability testing video assignment

continued....

The websites the participants were looking at

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/default.mspx?wt_svl=20372a&mg_id=20372b This site looks flashy with animated screens and the like, but when it comes to the solid information, it is a little light. Usability wise, it looks easy to find what you’re looking for. See, Learn, Choose & Buy are in big letters on the icons. The only problem that I can see is that you might be unsure what section the information you are looking for, the sections might seem a little vague to some non-internet users.

http://www.winsupersite.com/faq/vista.asp This website has a FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) on Windows Vista. At first, the website looks a little busy, and the title ‘Windows Vista FAQ’ doesn’t really stand out from the blue menu bar at the top of the page. Also the questions are a pale colour too that doesn’t stand out much either. Plus the advertising in the middle of the text is very annoying.

http://windowsvistablog.com/ First impressions about this site is that is looks great, but it is a little confusing on where is the best place to click. Also the text colour seems to blend well with the background, but the most popular topics frame on the right looks too busy.

General questions asked when participants first visited the website
What do you think this website is about?
What stands out at you?
What would you click on first?
What about the appearance?
What do you like about this page?
Do you like the layout?

Now look at the site for a few minutes, and then I will ask you some questions about it.

Questions used in Introduction of subject
Have you used Microsoft Windows before? [If Yes,]
What do you know about the latest operating system from Microsoft?
[If Nothing,] Have you seen any advertising for Windows Vista in the media? (TV, Newspapers, etc.)
[If looking at the different versions of windows]
What version of windows vista would you choose to buy, and why?

Questions used for all three websites

If you were looking for the features of windows visa, where would you click?

Who do you think that this website is aimed at?

What do you think this website would be used for?

How do you think the website can be improved?

Here is some of the information for my usability testing video assigment.

Introduction

Hello, my name is David Williamson and I am doing a usability test for three websites. These websites are related to the site that I am hoping to create.

All I would like from everyone is their honest responses about what could be changed or done better on these websites.

There will be no right or wrong answer, all I would like is the truth concerning the positive and negative aspects of these websites.

Any extra information that you need I can be sure to provide.

Permission for videotaping

With your permission, I would like to record this session on video. The purpose will be to record your actions when looking at these websites. This recording will be used for my university assignment only.

This session will take around (time). Anytime you need a break, don’t be afraid to ask.

Do you use the internet?

If so, what do you use the internet for?

Are you currently working?

(if yes)

Where would you use the internet the most at home or at work?

Lots of work with nothing to show!

I have put alot of work into both my assignments, and I can't believe that I havent got them in on time! First, me proposal I neally had finished when I went on holidays over easter and didn't get a chance to finish it, now the latest assignment I neally finished but the third interview I did crashed the program that I was using so I was left with only 2 video interviews:(

I really hope that I have a chance to pass this unit, because it will feel I put in alot of work for nothing but a little bit of bad luck. I will post some of the information here just to show that I was working on these assignments!

Been on holiday!!

I have been on holiday over the easter period and it looks like I am a little behind on the readings and I didn't get chance to hand in my first assignment!! Damn, I will have to work harder on the other ones. I have been reading Don't make me think again and going through the exercises. I hope that I can get up to date soon.

Ok, time for another post on here. I have been reading some of the book Don't make me think! and it is quite easy and not too boring to read. Yesterday I posted my questionairre and it got show down in flames! That's fine, at least I knew what I did wrong. I will go and have a look at it tonight. Overall, I will keep plugging away at the readings and the task, hope I am doing ok so far.

That is all for now.

Keeping at it!

I have been busy with lots of things this week, working full time and having other studies to look at. I have put together my list of things that I love about the internet, and I have been reading through this weeks readings. Later I will have at the book Don't make me think! and read a little if a get a chance. Juggling all the tasks is a little difficult but I will try and do my best to keep up to date with all that is happening on the discussion boards and the tasks that I have to do.

That is all for now, more later!

First post!!

Finally getting stuck in into this subject. I have bought the book Don't make me think! and I am starting to look at the discussion board daily. I am looking forward to this subject, it should be interesting and alot of fun.

I hope that there will be alot of participation in this subject since the last one that I did, hardly anyone posted at all! Yesterday I read and posted for 1.1.1 and tonight I will look at 1.1.2 Since I am working full time, I usually do all my study at night.

Anyway, that is all for now, I hope that I can do well in this subject and good luck everyone!
