I have started on my website design and it is going good so far, going through the inital stages of getting it together and I like the look so far. Usability testing video assignment
continued....
The websites the participants were looking at
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/default.mspx?wt_svl=20372a&mg_id=20372b This site looks flashy with animated screens and the like, but when it comes to the solid information, it is a little light. Usability wise, it looks easy to find what you’re looking for. See, Learn, Choose & Buy are in big letters on the icons. The only problem that I can see is that you might be unsure what section the information you are looking for, the sections might seem a little vague to some non-internet users.
http://www.winsupersite.com/faq/vista.asp This website has a FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) on Windows Vista. At first, the website looks a little busy, and the title ‘Windows Vista FAQ’ doesn’t really stand out from the blue menu bar at the top of the page. Also the questions are a pale colour too that doesn’t stand out much either. Plus the advertising in the middle of the text is very annoying.
http://windowsvistablog.com/ First impressions about this site is that is looks great, but it is a little confusing on where is the best place to click. Also the text colour seems to blend well with the background, but the most popular topics frame on the right looks too busy.
General questions asked when participants first visited the website

What stands out at you?
What would you click on first?

Here is some of the information for my usability testing video assigment.
Introduction
Hello, my name is David Williamson and I am doing a usability test for three websites. These websites are related to the site that I am hoping to create.
All I would like from everyone is their honest responses about what could be changed or done better on these websites.
There will be no right or wrong answer, all I would like is the truth concerning the positive and negative aspects of these websites.
Any extra information that you need I can be sure to provide.
Permission for videotaping
With your permission, I would like to record this session on video. The purpose will be to record your actions when looking at these websites. This recording will be used for my university assignment only.
This session will take around (time). Anytime you need a break, don’t be afraid to ask.
Do you use the internet?
If so, what do you use the internet for?
Are you currently working?
(if yes)
Where would you use the internet the most at home or at work?
Lots of work with nothing to show!
I really hope that I have a chance to pass this unit, because it will feel I put in alot of work for nothing but a little bit of bad luck. I will post some of the information here just to show that I was working on these assignments!
